Chocolate coconut coffee cake

This is a variation on my favorite muffin/coffee cake recipe. The main changes are the addition of cocoa powder and increasing the sugar. It is wheat free but does contain dairy and eggs. I am eating seconds of it still warm as I write this post.

I haven’t been posting much lately, but this is just too good not to share.

twentyten

OK, just had to mess around with the new default theme for WordPress 3.0 — picked a seasonal image from my photo stash and cropped it to the header image. Picked a second image to make the featured image of this post.

Only downside seems to be that you have to redo widgets with theme changes.

WP 3.0

I have done three of five needed upgrades so far today. Only issue I have seen so far is that I needed to redo the widgets in the default theme on an site hosted on Earthlink. That one is a booger, to install plugin or theme updates, I have to use FTP to delete the old one first. They haven’t got SFTP yet either.

Anyway, onward…

culture of cheating

This happened years ago, but it still bothers me. I was asked to meet with an untenured professor in the department where I worked. Dr. X had not so far shown much scientific aptitude, so I thought this meeting was rather unusual but hoped that it was a positive sign.

Spring!

It seems to have happened so quickly. Most of February’s snow and ice is gone now. The warm rains melted the ice cornice from the side of the house, apparently no damage, whew!

As the snow retreated in the front yard it revealed the tips of daffodil leaves emerging from the ground.

Found that the chives were also putting up new shoots and the garlic planted last fall was coming up as well.

As more snow melted, the pansies that seeded themselves and the forget-me-nots were showing green too.

This time last week I heard then saw a mockingbird at its usual post at 4th Street and 3rd Avenue. Over the weekend I saw an oven bird on the back porch. My first sighting of a robin was rather tragic though:

When I returned from the grocery store on March 3 a neighbor told me that she heard a robin for the first time that morning. When I got to the house, saw the poor thing on the sidewalk between my place and John’s. Apparently a traffic fatality.

Spring happens every year, but seems that it was much more dramatic this year because of all the snow last month.
