Passing of a generation and what is going around

This isn’t good, was offline most of last week, felt like the flu and/or bronchitis. Not good for the chronic respiratory problems team. In good years this doesn’t happen until after December. Still taking it easy. This is the kind of thing that often brings out the shingles.

The week before last was marked by the passing of my dad’s Aunt Clara at the age of 102. Her daughter moved in about this time last year, then the last two weeks one of the granddaughters came to help as it took two people to lift her. This enabled her to stay at home until the very end. She passed on the morning of All Saint’s Sunday, then the funeral was the following Thursday. She was very active in the community before becoming the favorite centenarian, so the funeral was well attended. One of the many quilts she made over the years covered the coffin, a lovely touch.

The storms last week took down the few leaves that were clinging to trees. Now it really looks like November outdoors. Sunsets and sunrises are still as beautiful.

It was mild out today, so bundled up and took Ling Ling out for a short walk. He rode inside my parka at first, but then got interested in the birch tree in the front yard, then walked to the pasture fence on the west side. Once there he turned back, then paused to urinate on the grass under a maple tree. Zowie, he is turning into a country cat! It wasn’t the least bit tentative either, so now one side of his turf is well marked. Would have liked to stay out longer, but shortness of breath and joint pain set in.
