First festival

When I went to the grocery store on Friday, noticed tents were being set up in Pere Marquette Park and Red Arrow Park. It was for a benefit for the arts programs in MPS. Sally and Hollis stopped by with their new puppy on Saturday afternoon. We listened to Hollis’ group sing then a bit of the Jim Liban blues trio. There was a stench of lawn chemicals around the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, but a lot better in Pere Marquette Park.

Hollis and new puppy Savanna

Hollis with the new puppy, Savanna, adopted from the WI Humane Society. She is a Jack Russell terrier mix and totally adorable.

It was beautiful out but I got cold even with wearing a light parka.

Sunday afternoon was better, felt like summer. I needed some milk, so took the scooter to Pick’n Save. Made for a pleasant trip.

Mother and Dad called yesterday. Turned out I did something wrong when I installed System 6 on the external hard drive I sent them. Ended up walking Daddy through installing System 7 on the partition that had System 6, restarting, then setting the startup volume to the Classic II internal hard drive. Whew!

This morning I wrote out a check to the IRS to pay a penalty I owed from 2003 and packed up two computer books to send to my dad. It was mild out but a light rain started when I was about half way to the post office, then I got fairly wet on the way home. Didn’t get chilled though.

That was the biggest check I have written in a long time. Was more than I paid for my first car. Would have covered almost four month’s rent. Think it killed off any inclination I might have had to shop.

Daz was online to chat this morning (his afternoon). Think I know enough to start the wild and wooly hat he envisioned.

    Hi, Kathy.

First, thanks for the linkage. I appreciate it.

Second, kind of sound like you might be able to help . . . A couple of years ago, I got an old Mac Classic II from the school where I teach, but it has security software on it, so I can’t save anything or add any programs. The Tech Coordinator didn’t have any old System 6 disks. Is there any chance that what you gave your dad might work for me?

I’ve been using Macs for fifteen years now. If I can get this Classic working, it will make a great trip down memory lane . . .

    Hi Jay,

The Classic II will not run on System 6, you need at least System 7.0.1. The problem my dad was having was that the external drive was trying to start on 6 which should have worked for the Mac Plus, but not the Classic II.

    Classic II Specifications

I have a second set of System 7.0.1 disks if you want them. They were left when someone moved out of an office at UWM.

My current elder Mac is a Powerbook 520 running System 7.5, It is fun on its own, but I mainly use it when I need to read a floppy disk or a 100 MB zip disk. It talks to my G4 running OS 10.2.8 on ethernet. Here is another resource if you use older Apple equipment: http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html

Happy second anniversary for your blog and keep up the good work!
