Mardi Gras thaw to St. Pat’s snow

A friend asked what I have been doing instead of updating my blog. We had winter roll in late and severe in mid-January. I have been watching the weather, knitting sweaters, learning new music, tending the critters, eating, and sleeping.

The big news here is that I learned last week that I need to move by May 1 because my landlord is selling this place. Our agreement was that I could rent here until he decided what he wanted to do, so the time has come. I have a better idea what is available now and wouldn’t feel bad if I get settled in time to put in a small garden and have a fenced yard for Bode.

I guess knitting has taken the place of blogging. The way I do it is to go through the stash and swatches in various size needles and block them. Next I get out my little notebook and calculator and start figuring. I consult Knitting Without Tears for baseline percentages and measure sweaters that I like to get the proportions. I had a lot of fine cone yarn I bought on eBay, so ended up with three turtle necks in colors appropriate for men’s socks. It is OK though, they are turtle necks meant to be worn under a heavier pullover, cardigan, or shirt, so the neutral colors are OK.

I am now re-knitting a sweater in midnight blue heather homespun that my sister gave me. I wasn’t happy with the neckline and there was a fair amount of yarn left over meaning I had a lot more latitude in design than I realized. Even a sweater can have a second chance.

Promise to put up some back-dated snow pictures soon…
