Grayness

Viewing the screen this morning is like trying to look through a gauze curtain. It hurts in my eyes and head when I try. More intense pain on the right side and around my ear, hope it isn’t another migraine coming on.

I was planning to write about putting away winter woolens but with temperatures in the low 40s here in Milwaukee, that is premature. If you live in warmer climates and are thinking of putting your hand knit mittens, socks, hats, and sweaters away, make sure to give them a good wash first. Moths are less likely to attack clean wool. Your warm clothing will be nice and fresh when you need it next fall.

On Saturday I took the No. 10 bus to Kathy’s House on 103rd Street, near Bluemound Road just beyond the Zoo. Some email mito buddies were at Froedterdt and Children’s for tests and exams and were staying there as guests. They got permission for some of us who live in SE Wisconsin to meet there. It was a lot friendlier than meeting in a restaurant. We sat around tables in the dining area and chatted most of the afternoon. It was hard to say goodbye.

I had thought of washing my mittens and fingerless (hobo) gloves and the wool hats I have been wearing, but glad I didn’t. The hobo gloves are probably the most needful, have been wearing them while visiting my son and his dogs. Was glad I had them in my scooter bag on Saturday, was quite raw after the rain came in the late afternoon. I didn’t use the bus stop closest to where I got off to return. The main entrance to the Zoo had a big shelter, so was able to get out of the rain. The bus only comes twice an hour out there. I printed a schedule from the MCTS web site, but left it in the printer. Fortunately I only had to wait about 10 minutes.

My mom called yesterday afternoon. I sent them my Classic II computer to use for word processing. I packed it up and my son helped by carrying it to the post office on April 24. I was getting ready to go to the post office to file a claim a week ago today when my mom called to say it was at their post office. Although it took a while, it arrived in good condition and is working well, so Post Office++.

My dad decided just before he turned 80 to become a computer geek and resurrected my son’s Mac Plus. They did OK with it, but after a while it stopped recognizing the external hard drive. Not bad for a computer that dates from the mid-1980s. He was able to boot it from a floppy disk, so they were getting by that way.

I took the external floppy drive that came with the Mac Plus when I got my son an external SCSI hard drive. I put it in the box with the Classic II and attached a note. They couldn’t read my hand writing, which I have trouble with too. I explained to my dad that if he attached it to the Mac Plus, he wouldn’t have to swap floppy disks to play games. He tried it and reported back that it worked. He is planning to attach the external drive hard drive to the Classic II sometime this week. We both suspect that it is OK.

Should have printed more on the computer for them. Duh! My mom did read the note I left as a document on the desk top. I found all the books that came with the Classic II as well, so suspect my dad will go through them on days when it isn’t good enough to work outdoors. They do better than a lot of people I used to work with when it comes to reading documentation. Not bad considering they left school after 8th grade.
