Hummers!!!

Guess we are in webcam mode this morning.

Trees barely visible through mist

I was keyed up last night. Eliminated several of the more dreadful medical possibilities when I saw a specialist in the afternoon. The class reunion booklets were done, so Sharon stopped by to pick them up in the evening. I’m really getting fired up about the reunion. Finally got off the computer when looking through the swarm of gnats on the screen got annoying.

While Sharon and I were sitting on the porch enjoing the cool evening air, I spotted the profile of a tiny bird on perched on the telephone wire. The lines seem to be cleverly engineered so that larger birds have to teeter on them, suppose to keep flocks of blackbirds from roosting and collapsing them. The bluebirds balance on the wires, tipping forward and backward until they see a bug in the grass, then dive for it.

It was a male humming bird and as we watched, he came to the porch and hovered a bit, then sipped sugar water from the feeder. I put my hand on Bode’s back remembering his battles with the bumblebees, but he was very calm. He adores Sharon, so guess he was in a good mood.

This morning I was up around 6. It is to be quite hot later on today, but a sweater and a nice cup of hot tea were comforting as I sat on the front porch with Bode and watched the mist clear.

Misty morning

Ling Ling joined us.

A female humming bird came by, sipped, flew away to perch in the birch tree, then came back and fed again and flew away. After a while a male came too. This time I had the camera ready.

Humming bird at feeder in flower pot

I saw humming birds fly over both the front and back porch, so invested in a feeder and filled it with sugar water. Suspect the heavy rains kept them away. Della said there were humming bird nests around the winery the last time I was up there, so figured they might be come regular visitors. Now they know where it is I will look forward to watching them.

White anemone flower just opening
The first blossom on the anenomies I planted in the beginning of May was starting to open this morning. The mystery lilies Delbert planted have had buds for weeks. The larger stalks tower over my head. Now a few buds are starting to show color. A spider web in one of them was jeweled with dew.

It is almost clear now. Time to get the washer going.
