Taking it easy today

Tuesday morning my mom discovered someone had shot into their large front window. Seemed like a bad joke, drive by shootings are supposed to be an urban phenomenon.

We did some trip chaining on Wednesday morning, stopping at the bank, then their insurance agency in Indiana, then a supermarket in Indiana. They had motorized carts, so I got one and stocked up. It takes a while to learn a new grocery store. We split up to shop, then after while my mom came by to say that they had checked out. We shopped together, then my dad came in to see what happened to us. Ended up with three bags of groceries and a list of what I want to get the next time. Got a lot of cupboard food and stocking up type things.

We split the items we decided to share then I made lunch and had a nap. Was still spacey from the migraine, and a bit dizzy after shopping even with using the cart. Later in the afternoon my mom came by and she washed ceilings while I did the paneling and doors. I ran out of energy first. It had been clear all day, but cool enough in the morning that jackets felt good. It got warm in the afternoon. I put out some washing on the little clothes line I put on the front deck, then fastened my drying rack to the railing with a bungie cord and put the rest out to dry.

As we were sitting on the deck, my mom asked if I could trim her hair in the back. The sun was getting low, but the light was good, so we did that, then she looked in the mirror and wanted some more cut, ended up doing a trim all over. Was one of those mother and daughter sharing times, out in the warm breeze with the open sky above.

There were warnings that we would have rain through the night, although it was just starting to cloud up a bit at sunset.

I shut the computer down, then watched TV for a while. Got into one of those things where I am too keyed up or tired or both to sleep well. Must have been well after midnight when I got to sleep, then was wakened at about 5:30 am by a serious storm, strong winds and lots of rain.

I forgot to mention the other day that the sound of rain on the roof took me by surprise. With eight floors between me and the sky at the Chalet in Milwaukee, didn’t really hear it. Nice cozy feeling, inside looking out. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have liked because I was still tired. I unplugged the modem and turned off the printer and went back to bed. Around 6 am, after the worst of the storm had passed, the electric power went off for about 5 minutes.

By the time I got up, after 8 am, the sky was starting to clear. It is below 60° F and windy today with an intense blue sky and white clouds. Decided to take it easy after all the things yesterday. Took a long bath, then cooked some yellow crookneck squash, Roma tomatoes, and onions from my parent’s garden to go with pasta for lunch. Did some more wash, the wind is so intense that the clothes I hung out on the little line on the deck were fluffy like out of a mechanical dryer, but so much more fresh smelling.

I took a rest by the west windows, saw that the clouds were ragged, almost fractal looking at the edges. As I watched, saw that they were actually dispersing rather than accumulating, so guess cumulus is not the correct term. Torn bits would separate and dissolve as I watched.

We may have frost tonight. Really feels like fall today. Long sleeves and sweater weather.
