Rain, rain, rain

Columbine blossom
We are still in a wet pattern. On Sunday and again yesterday the rain was heavy enough to put the little creek over its banks. We didn’t get quite as much rain as on the coast, but plenty. Last night fog settled in at sunset. The fireflies are still out. I watched one climb up on the potted viola on the deck getting ready to fly. Was interesting to see them flashing in the mist. The rain has been hard on blossoms. This columbine seems to have done OK, even has a second bud.

At 9:30 the sun is still trying to break through the clouds. Most of the mist has burned off. There was enough light though to bring out the first lobelia flower — need to remember next year to plant the seeds a lot earlier.

Insect on leaf
Yesterday morning before the rain started I saw this insect on a geranium leaf on the deck. There are lots more insects out now, am finding ones I don’t recognize.

This is the part of gardening that takes patience. Unlike earlier, the main thing to do now is to watch and pull weeds. The radishes are long eaten, but I am still getting lettuce every few days. The peas are almost done, but have been a very tasty snack eaten raw fresh from the vines. I have started to harvest onions to thin them out.
